Back in the San Francisco days one of the many major life changers for me was the first time I volunteered at Glide Memorial. Preparing food, wrapping food in bags, that kind of stuff.  I felt like I was part of something and I was. I was browsing their website and checking out the volunteer opportunities over the Holidays. All but one shift is full. That’s just so awesome. But, I must remember, people are hungry not just over the holiday season.

Current Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

2009 Thanksgiving Meal Prep (18 yrs of age and up) Help prepare salad, stuffing, biscuits, sweet potatoes and other fixings that will be served to thousands of hungry people on Thanksgiving Day. Note: If possible, please bring a new, unwrapped toy (one per volunteer) for Glide’s annual Holiday Toy Giveaway.

Thanksgiving Day Meal Help serve Glide’s traditional Holiday meal, carve turkey and assist the kitchen staff while we serve for a special holiday breakfast and Thanksgiving dinner. Note: Please, if at all possible, bring a new, unwrapped toy (one per volunteer) to contribute to the annual Holiday Toy Giveaway. Celebration service in the sanctuary at 10:00AM.

Toy Sort and Transfer-At Glide (Must be 18yrs and older to participate in this shift)*Volunteers will help sort, load and transfer thousands of toys to St. Mary’s Cathedral where they will be sorted, organized, and bagged in preparation for Glide’s Annual Toy Giveaway.

Grocery Bag GiveAway Prep Stack and sort food in preparation for Glide’s annual Grocery Bag Give Away. We provide thousands of bags full of groceries to hungry families , so they can share a holiday meal together.

Grocery Bag GiveAway Volunteers will help prepare and distribute grocery bags full of much needed food. Volunteers will also greet guests, and help manage the long lines, and help us create a welcoming atmoshpere for our clients.

November

October pretty much flew by for me. The first of the month my newest niece Lauren was born. Then my other niece Samantha had her 6th birthday on October 19. It was a month of work and trying to be as chill as possible. Started Yoga which has been great. But, mostly as much as I love the month of October it was quiet and on the “down low.”

We have now moved into November and then comes the big Xmas. I love the lights and the decorations and the whole idea of Christmas. However, I’m not a huge fan of shopping and all that comes with that.

With the approach of Thanksgiving though I enjoy one of my favorite meals. Yep, it’s Tofurky
